Located six miles East of Manchester city centre, Ashton-Under-Lyne has unbeatable transport links to Manchester city centre (Metrolink, train and road). It’s also conveniently situated for Manchester airport, which is in the process of being expanded.
Ashton-Under-Lyne itself has all kinds of facilities and amenities as well as good nurseries and schools (both primary and secondary). This means that it attracts a wide range of tenants, but its core demographic is still largely families and young professional commuters.
This bustling market town sits in the foothills of the Pennines and was the subject of substantial unplanned urbanisation as a result of the Industrial Revolution. Whilst heavy industry in the area has now halted, the town continues to thrive as a centre of commerce and the town centre is the largest in Tameside and is protected as a conservation area. The town has seen the Huddersfield Canal being restored to allow leisure craft to enjoy it once again.
Ashton’s biggest claim to fame is that it is home to one of the largest outdoor markets in the whole of the United Kingdom. It also has a huge shopping centre known as the Ashton Arcades, and IKEA have set up one of their many superstores in the heart of the town, making it a popular weekend destination for many Manchester residents.
The diverse population of the area is cared for by the St Michael and All Angels’ Grade I listed church amongst others and the Masjid Hamza Mosque is one of six in the town.
Ashton Leisure Park is a great way for all ages to keep busy. It is made up of a 14-screen cinema, a bowling alley and a number of restaurants.
Curzon Ashton and Ashton United are two football clubs which call the town their home, and there is also an athletics stadium with all-weather running track and a cricket club.
A visit to Ashton Leisure Park gives residents of Ashton-under-Lyne access to Five Guys, Bella Italia and Prezzo restaurants. You can also choose from Frankie & Benny’s, Harvester, Eat Inn, KFC, Nando’s and Chiquito. There is also a large Village Hotel which contains its own restaurant, bar and Starbucks.
On visiting other parts of Ashton, you will find a range of beautiful independent restaurants, bistros and even patisseries. Ashton is a wonderful place to eat as it has such a wide range of options that are perfect for every taste and budget.
