Located seven miles East of Manchester city centre, Hyde is not on the Metrolink but has no fewer than six railway stations to make up for its absence. It also has a major local bus station with services to numerous local destinations, especially along the M60 on which it is located.
Up until recently, Hyde has been of limited interest to property investors. The area could, however, benefit greatly from the growing trend of remote and hybrid working. It is therefore definitely a location property investors should keep on their radar.
Found in Tameside, Hyde is within easy reach of Manchester, Glossop and Stockport. Like much of the surrounding area, the town grew throughout the Industrial Revolution as it created its own cotton mill industry, and one of those mills still survives today. Despite being a small Cheshire town, Hyde has also appeared in a number of well-known television programmes including Life On Mars and a scene from the film Yanks was filmed in Hyde Town Hall.
The scenic Saddleworth Moor is in easy reach of Hyde, creating a great place to visit for walkers and photographers.
The recently refurbished leisure centre has a large swimming pool complete with wave machine and aqua slide as well as a modern fitness suite and café.
Sports lovers can watch Hyde United play football at Ewen Fields, and the ground has sometimes been used by Manchester United and Manchester City for reserve team fixtures. Hyde also has its own water polo team as well as a cricket and squash club. As the childhood home of world champion boxer Ricky Hatton, Hyde now also has its own boxing gym and health club run by Hatton Promotions.
Whatever type of cuisine you are looking for, there’s a good chance you will find it in Hyde. There are pubs offering traditional pub fayre and carveries, Italian restaurants hosting live music, a wide variety of Indian restaurants, bistros and even one venue offering Cuban food.
This eclectic mix makes it a great place for a night out, with something to suit all the family. Whether you want cosy, romantic, contemporary or just a takeaway for a quiet night in, you are sure to find something to suit.
